More about our GeyserTECH solar geyser controllers
Convert your existing geyser to Solar PV power with our new GeyserTECH Pi²R Micro and Pi²R iX geyser solar controllers. The geyser is one of the average household’s highest consumers of electricity and also one of the most difficult to connect to a solar system due to the high current draw. Our controllers will fill that gap in your energy planning by feeding directly from solar PV panels to the existing geyser element. There is no need for batteries in the system as the energy is stored in your geyser as heat energy.
BOTH AC & DC CONNECTED (but they can work off-grid)
The GeyserTECH Pi²R Micro and Pi²R iX geyser solar controllers are both AC and DC connected. This means one can set when grid power should be used to top up the temperature - typically early morning or in the event of low sun conditions on cloudy, rainy days and mid winter. This is achieved by means of a timer on the Micro and standard iX and by the programmable digital touch screen display which can be paired with the Pi2R iX to make it what we refer to as the Pi2R iX SMART.
GeyserTECH Pi²R iX
The Pi²R iX is the more powerful of the two controllers, with an output of up to 15 amps. It can handle PV Solar inputs of between 90V and 320V and can be paired with the digital touchscreen display.
GeyserTECH Pi²R Micro
The Pi²R Micro is the smaller of the two controllers, with an output of up to 7.5 amps. It can handle PV Solar inputs of between 90V and 200V.
GeyserTECH Pi²R Digital Display
The Pi2R digital display unit is packed full of features and is able to both control temperature and time settings as well as monitor and log the various parameters involved.
MPPT
All GeyserTECH Pi²R Micro and Pi²R iX solar geyser controllers have built in MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controllers which enables the Pi²R to extract power more efficiently out of the PV panels by adapting the intake power to the current weather conditions.
The Pi²R iX is the more powerful of the two controllers, with an output of up to 15 amps. It can handle PV Solar inputs of between 90V and 320V.
Advantages of PV Solar
Photo Voltaic (PV) solar geyser systems have a number of advantages over thermal solar geysers, notably:
- they require less maintenance and have longer lifespans as there are no rubber, plastic or metal pipes carrying circulating water which can perish
- panels and geyser can be far apart
- no water loss due to overheating as they can switch off when the required temperature is reached
- lower temperature losses as there is no circulating water
- less plumbing
